On Thursday, May 2, 2024, there was a press conference at Springfield, IL regarding the bill HB793, Amendment 3, which is called Dignity in Pay.  This will eradicate subminimum pay to people with disabilities in five years. With the support of the Illinois Association of the Deaf executive board, President Marietta Coufal was able to attend to represent IAD along with Jerry Covell, IAD’s legislative liaison.

They were able to meet with Senator Theresa Mah (the lady in red) who has been working on this bill for six years.  Marietta and Jerry were also able to meet Ryan Croke, a CODA, who is the First Assistant Deputy Governor for Health & Human Services with the Governor’s office.

IAD looks forward to working with our legislators to get this bill passed to improve the wages for persons with disabilities.
