The virtual IAD conference takes place in less than 60 days!!! Here is an official statement from the Awards Chairperson for the upcoming conference.
My name is Susan Dramin-Weiss. I am the chairperson of the awards committee. There will be a virtual IAD conference this summer and the awards will be announced on June 11 thru Zoom. There are 8 awards that we are hoping to give out. Please see the attachments (attachment/award descriptions in comments) and think of a good candidate for each award. All awards have descriptions that that person needs to meet.

The JB & Beatrice Davis Leadership Award Overview “Leadership Excellence” – The award is presented to a former IAD Officer/Director of IAD or chapter officer(s) Criteria: Must be an IAD Member for at least 6 years Must be former officer/director of IAD or Chapter(s) of IAD for at least 4 years. Must have been an active part of the deaf community services that is not connected to IAD. (This does not include any sport leadership)
Legislative Recognition Award Overview – Presented to legislators who have given exceptional support for the rights of people who are deaf+ and hard of hearing
Lowell J Myers J.D Award for Excellence in Accessibility Advocacy Overview “Excellence in Accessibility Advocacy” – presented to an organization or agency in recognization of excellence in advocacy for accessibility. This award was named in memory of Lowell J. Myers, deaf lawyer.
Meritorious Service Award Overview – Presented to an individual(s) in recognition of outstanding service to the deaf+ and hard of hearing community, Criteria: Must be a resident of Illinois. Must have demonstrated unique services to the deaf+ and hard of hearing throughout Illinois in the past two years. Must have been an active part of the deaf+ community for more than 5 years.
Senior Citizens Award Overview: Presented to individual member(s) of IAD who is the consummate deaf senior citizens volunteer who has applied their energy and talent to make a difference in the community.
Spirit of IAD Overview: “Commitment to the IAD” -Presented to an individual member of IAD who carries the spirit of IAD in all levels of their work, demonstrating exemplary commitment, dedication and service.
Youth Leadership Award Presented to individual(s) between the age of 14-18 and 19-28 years old, whose dedication, vision, and leadership have made a difference in the deaf community.
