The true meaning of Diwali is the celebration of light, making a fresh start, and new beginnings. Many people consider that Diwali marks the start of their new year, enabling them to make plans for a new start, a little like new year’s resolutions. It’s very important just before Diwali that the house is cleaned. Diwali is called the Festival of Lights and is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana.
