The Illinois Association of the Deaf would like to thank all those who came to the increase awareness of the various barriers Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens face on a daily basis!
More than 150 Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens came to the rally on May 4th at the State Capital and roughly half attended the Special Legislative Committee Meeting held in the Capital in the afternoon.
IAD President Corey Axelrod, IAD Legislative Committee Chair Jason Altmann, and Illinois School for the Deaf Alumni Association Legislative Liaison Jerry Covell should be applauded for their efforts for working with the State Legislators to raise awareness and initiate conversations regarding education, communication access and employment opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals!
Last, but not least, the IAD would like to extend our thanks to the IL DGM committee, led by Tamera Gaudet-Doody and Igor Zapadinsky, for organizing and making this event happen.
