Membership

The IAD has two memberships: individual and organizational.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP

Become a part of the Illinois Association of the Deaf (IAD), a strong promoter of the advancement of the social, educational, and economic well-being of the deaf and hard of hearing citizens of Illinois. As a member-driven organization, the IAD welcomes everyone who supports its mission and objectives. Your membership makes it possible for the IAD to protect the collective interest of the deaf and hard of community through advocacy efforts across the board.

As a member, you will have representation at the state and national levels on legislative and government issues, be invited to join various committees and task forces to help shape the IAD agenda, voting privileges and the ability to shape and direct the organization, regular e-news and other timely announcements, invitations to annual leadership training seminars and biennial state conferences, and a subscription to the Illinois State-Wide Bulletin (newsletter).

Regular

$5/year

Upon payment of dues, regular members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of active membership, including holding office and voting (excludes non-residents).

Senior

$5/year

Upon payment of dues, individual members above the age of sixty (60) shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of active membership, including holding office and voting (excludes non-residents).

Student

$5/year

Upon payment of dues, individual members currently enrolled in any K-12 program or in college shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of active membership, except holding office and voting.

ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP

Organizations can choose one of four categories:

Chapter Affiliates

$50/year

IAD chapters are responsible for local advocacy and support the overall IAD mission and vision on a local level. Upon payment of dues, chapters of IAD can send a representative to sit as a Director on the IAD Board of Directors and said representative shall be eligible to vote as a participant on the Board of Directors.

Non-Profit Affiliates

Local - $50/year

State - $100/year

Affiliated non-profit members shall include any non-for-profit organization, agency, entity, or local club in the state of Illinois which has as a purpose and/or primary concern the welfare of the deaf and hard of hearing in IAD. Affiliated nonprofit shall send one representative to all IAD Board of Directors’ meeting. Said representatives shall be referred to as “affiliated representatives.” Affiliated representatives shall be eligible to vote, but may not hold office in IAD.

Government Affiliates

Local - $50/year

State - $100/year

Affiliated government agency members shall include any local or statement government agency which provides service(s) to deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the state of Illinois. The Affiliated government agency may send one representative to all Board of Directors’ meetings, but said representative shall not be eligible to vote or hold office. Said representative shall be referred to as “affiliated observers.”

For-Profit Affiliates

Local - $150/year

State - $200/year

Affiliated for-profit members shall include any local or statewide for-profit corporations and agencies which has as a purpose serving and/or doing business with deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the state of Illinois. The affiliated forprofit shall send one representative to all IAD Board of Director’s meetings. Said representatives shall be referred to as “affiliated observers.” Affiliated observers shall not be eligible to vote or to hold office in IAD.
